## 1. Agenda for Change Section 2 Statutory Terms

## 2. Band 5 Staff Nurse Hourly Rates (2026/27 Entry Point)

- Basic Hourly Rate: £16.40 / hr
- Weekday Night Rate (+30%): £21.32 / hr (+£4.92/hr extra)
- Saturday Rate (+30%): £21.32 / hr (+£4.92/hr extra)
- Sunday / Bank Holiday Rate (+60%): £26.24 / hr (+£9.84/hr extra)

## 3. Tax and Pension Treatment of Unsocial Hours

1. **Pensionable Status:** Contractual unsocial hours payments paid as part of basic contracted working hours (up to 37.5 hours per week) are pensionable under the 2015 NHS CARE Scheme. Non-contractual overtime shifts exceeding 37.5 hours are non-pensionable.
2. **HMRC PAYE Tax & National Insurance:** Unsocial enhancements are treated as taxable employment income subject to 20% basic rate income tax and 8% Class 1 National Insurance.
3. **Net Cash Retention:** Clinical staff keep approximately 68p to 72p of every £1 of gross unsocial enhancement earned.
